File Extension SLD Description:

The .sld file extension is associated with the computer software AutoCAD developed by Autodesk, Inc. The .sld file format makes use of the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions "application/sld" "application/x-sld" and "image/x-sld." Files with the .sld extension have a program identification of "AutoCADSlide" and "AutoCADLTSlide." This library is also supported by Autodesk Inc.'s AutoCAD Lite.

The AutoCAD is a computer-aided design application built for two-dimensional and three-dimensional drafting and illustration. Several application programming interfaces are supported by AutoCAD for automation including VisualLISP, .NET, AutoLISP, ObjectARX and Visual Basic for Applications.

The AutoCAD is useful for rendering slide presentations to clients who does not have a keen understanding of plans and blueprints. The .sld file format is is the native structure used by AutoCAD for identifying slide files. Files with the .sld extension are generated by the MSLIDE command and are interpreted by the VSLIDE command.

Files with the .sld extension are comprised of a header and data records of uneven extent. These files consist of snapshot or raster representation of the display on the graphics area. The sizes as well as the coordinates that are written to a file in the .sld format mirror the graphics area of the display tool wherein the slide was generated.

The header of a file with the .sld file extension is made up of an identification string, type and level indicator, high x dot, high y dot, aspect ratio, hardware fill and a test number. Each data record contained in a file with the .sld extension starts with a 2-byte field. The rest of the data record may be comprised of 1-byte or 2-byte fields. If for instance, an SLD file comprises any vectors, a recent color record will be designated as the first data record.

Any view of a drawing can be saved as a slide. Files with the .sld extension are predominantly helpful for saving colored images.
