File Extension DCT Description:

The file extension DCT is used by the application Visual FoxPro, as a database container. Visual FoxPro is an object oriented programming language that has an integrated database engine, working to the advantage of this application, by making it capable to handle SQL queries and different data manipulation functions.

The files containing the DCT file extension does not need an additional programming environment to run, it can be loaded using commonly used applications, middleware, and other available web applications. The syntax of this programming language is derived from the dBase language. Different versions of Visual FoxPro have been released that are compatible to different operating systems including Mac, DOS, Windows, and UNIX.

The DCT file extension is also used as a dictation audio file by two different applications, the NCH Swift Sound Express Scribe, and StartSpanish. A dictation audio file having the DCT file extension is meant for recording human speech and having a specific codec format, which can include a header code that may or may not be encrypted.

The application Express Scribe, which uses the DCT file extension, is an audio player created for personal computers to support in transcribing audio recordings. This application can be controlled using a foot pedal or keyboard shortcuts. Features of the Express Scribe application include: a user defined playback speed, file management, multi channel controls, capability to upload both analog and digital recordings to the loading window, and compatibility with different word processor programs. It can also automatically receive recordings through the Internet using FTP, email or local network, automatically send the transcribed file to the user doing the dictation, support for different speech recognition software, direct loading of audio CDs, can be installed to work with a dictation management system, and can be integrated with other typing utility to create keyboard shortcuts for difficult medical and legal terminology.

On the other hand, StartSpanish, which also use the DCT file extension for its dictation audio files, is software intended to be used by people who are just beginning to study the Spanish language. This application also provides an easy review of the Spanish grammar.
